Theaters that provide mass entertainment have long been a perennial favorite in Japan. This classic tale of chivalry and heroism features a star-studded cast, including leaders of theatrical troupes representing both eastern and western Japan, as well as popular veteran actors like Satomi Yojiro and Aoi Kojiro. Satomi Yojiro plays Rintaro, a man who decides to open a ramen shop called "Akashishi-tei" in an alleyway corner of a bustling commercial district full of small bars and cabaret clubs. He soon comes face to face with a string of colorful customers, including a woman with a bruised face and the neighborhood yakuza, and gets tangled up in a spiel that dredges up episodes from his past life.
