A social drama that deeply explores issues regarding medical practices in Japan's regional hospitals. Based on the bestselling novel by Ohgane Toshihiko, a practicing doctor, the story follows an earnest and skilled surgeon who tries to conduct a deceased donor liver transplant, which is an illegal procedure. The director of the film is Narushima Izuru, who was highly acclaimed for such screenplays as Climber's High. The story takes place in 1989, in a city hospital in Shiga prefecture. Heavily reliant on the university medical center, this is a hospital that cannot even conduct surgery. But one day Toma (Tsutsumi Shinichi), a skilled surgeon trained in the United States arrives. Sticking to his patient-first policy, he defies convention and goes on to conduct challenging operations...
