[ Story ]
Toward the end of the Pacific War, Imperial Japanese Army Captain Oba Sakae managed to confound the 45,000-strong U.S. forces on Saipan with a band of only fourty-seven soldiers. Based on Don Jones' "Oba, the Last Samurai: Saipan 1944-45", a novelised account of his exploits grounded in historical fact, this war drama presents a true portrait of the man from both Japanese and American perspectives. In 1944, Oba (Takenouchi Yutaka) of the Imperial Japanese Army's 18th Infantry Regiment was deployed to the fierce battleground of Saipan. Joining forces with commando Horiuchi (Karasawa Toshiaki), he attempts to counter the overwhelming might of the U.S. military.
