[ Story ]
Matsumoto Hitoshi directs his third film with this period drama from an original story. Depicts filial bonds through a thirty-day struggle undertaken by Nomi Kanjuro, a samurai who carries only an empty scabbard, and his daughter Tae, who rebels against his lameness. Kanjuro had a bounty on his head for leaving the domain without permission, and gets cornered and then captured. The domain lord punishes him with a thirty-day task. Namely, within thirty days he must restore the smile to a despondent young prince who stopped laughing after his mother's death. If Kanjuro succeeds, he goes free. Failure will result in ritual disembowelment.
