[ Story ]
Directorial debut of Matsumoto Hitosi, a darling of the comedian's world who is one of the comic duo, Downtown. Dainipponjin is an ordinary person in everyday life, but once electrified, he transforms into a gigantic hero and protects Japan against enemy forces. The film portrays, in a documentary-like fashion, the daily life of this transformable hero and the distress caused to an ordinary person in combat. Entered into the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2007.
Daisato Masaru (Matsumoto Hitosi)'s job is to rid Japan of "Ju", a gigantic creature that appears in Japan from time to time. Being a "Dainipponjin" (Literally meaning a 'big Japanese person') has been in his family business for generations, and Daisato is the sixth-generation. However, with the increased readiness of the armed forces, he is not needed so much now. The general public turns a cold shoulder on him and he feels stigmatized in his daily life. One day, a new type of red creature appears. Faced with its overwhelming strength, Daisato, finds himself running away without fighting. While criticism mounts upon miserable Daisato, the red creature re-appears. Daisato is driven into a corner, when an unexpected hero emerges, and the story heads towards a surprising ending.
