A short animated adaptation of a folk tale from Hanawa Town in Fukushima Prefecture about a family of kappas (water-dwelling monsters) and their selfless love for one another. Previously made into a picture book, the story was originally created by the former principal of a local elementary school, and was popularized by a storyteller named Grandmother Toyo. Kappa Kankichi (voice: Han Megumi), who lives in the Katakai River with his mother (voice: Yanagisawa Michiyo), makes friends with the children of a nearby village and teaches them to skin dive. However, the son of the village headman is the only one who is unable to get the knack of it. He begins practicing in secret on his own, but accidentally drowns.
