[ Story ]
A documentary by Taiwanjinsei director Sakai Atsuko that shines a light on the elderly "Japanese-speaking generation" in Taiwan. Through the reminiscences of these people, who lived through turbulent periods in their nation's history such as world wars and the 228 Incident, it examines how modern-day Taiwan came into being after the Japanese occupation ended.
For half a century from 1895 to 1945, Taiwan was under Japanese rule. How do those citizens who grew up learning Japanese, and are now in their twilight years, view the relationship between Japan and Taiwan? Their personal accounts reveal their homeland's little-known postwar history.
