Drama feature film adaptation of Shirakawa Missei's same-titled essays about his experiences as the head monk at Eifukuji Temple in Ehime Prefecture's Imabari City. Makabe Yukinori's feature film directorial debut.
Shirakata Susumu (Ito Atsushi) grew up at Eifukuji Temple. He returns home to the temple after being ordained as monk, but works at a local bookstore. Upon the death of his grandfather Zuien (Shinagawa Toru), the temple's head monk, the 24-year-old Susumu takes the name of Koen and becomes the chief monk. But, he discovers that being a monk is much more profound than he'd imagined.
