[ Story ]
The third movie directed by Mitani Koki, following Welcome Back, Mr. McDonald (Rajio no Jikan) and All About Our House (Minna no Ie). The movie shows the mayhem of tears and laughter that takes place at an up-scale hotel on New Year's Eve. A cast of 23 representative talents of Japanese cinema have been gathered together, including Yakusho Koji of Babel.
The scene is set at the up-scale "Hotel Avanti" on New Year's Eve. The hotel staff are fully occupied in preparing for the new year count down party. The Assistant Manager of the hotel, Shindo Heikichi (Yakusho Koji), is struggling with a succession of various issues that he needs to deal with in a flexible manner as they arise. It is under such circumstances when a group of guests arrive, all with some issues, including a teacher, Hotta Mamoru (Kadono Takuzo), who has come for an award ceremony with his wife, Yumi (Harada Mieko); a corrupt member of the Diet, Mutoda Katsutoshi (Sato Koichi); a famous Japanese ballad singer, Tokugawa Zenbu (Nishida Toshiyuki); and a call girl, Yoko (Shinohara Ryoko). Each one greets New Year's Eve, a milestone of the year, with mixed feelings.
