[ Story ]
Documentary about potter Matsuda Yoneshi's "Kitagama" pottery in Yomitan Village, Okinawa. He uses the island's soil as clay and creates shapes using a pottery wheel, and then fires the pieces in a shared 13-chamber climbing kiln. The documentary records three years in the daily lives of potters whose endeavors are enriched through their work creating "yachimun" (pottery).
After Okinawa was returned to Japan, an area formerly used to process unexploded bombs was transformed into Yachimun no Sato, which means "pottery village," symbolizing Okinawan culture. In 1992, four master potters including Matsuda Yoneshi created their "Kitagama" kiln after five years of effort, and they pass the kiln on to the next generation.
