[ Story ]
Documentar y about the tumul tuous li fe of Japanese-American zen monk Henry Mittwer. Delves into Henry Mittwer as a person using documentary footage along with varied techniques including animation and drama vignettes. Directed by Nakamura Takayuki of Yokohama Mary.
Born in 1918 in Yokohama, Henry traveled to the US on his own in 1940 and spent the war years incarcerated in Japanese-American internment camps. In 1961 he returned to Japan, where he endured the chaos of the era while cultivating his talents through the tea ceremony, ceramics and writing. Old age didn't bring the carefree life one might have expected.
