[ Story ]
A film adaptation of an Akutagawa award nominated novel of the same title, by Matsuo Suzuki, the writer himself, who took on the script as well as the direction. It is a story of a female writer admitted into a closed ward of a psychiatric department and who spends 14 days in the midst of patients with problems.
Asuka (Uchida Yuki) is a 28-year-old freelance writer. She is frustrated by her work that is in the doldrums, and her relationship with her live-in partner, Tetsuo (Kudo Kankuro) is not going very well. When she wakes up one day, she finds herself in a "quite room", an observation room within a closed ward for women. Asuka has no memory of how she has been admitted to the hospital, and has no idea why she, who takes pride in being a sane person, should be admitted to a psychiatric ward. The place is filled with patients with various problems. As she interacts with patients with different personalities, her memory gradually returns, and the true reason why she is there is revealed. During her 14 days of struggle, Asuka faces up to herself, and regains the will to live.
