Solemnly depicting the anguish and growth of a sensitive, introverted young man, Amuro, this first theatrical film in the Mobile Suit Gundam series has exerted an enormous influence on robot anime since the 1980s. The director is Tomino Yoshiyuki.
In Universal Century 0079, Amuro Ray (voice: Toru Furuya) suddenly becomes the pilot of the mobile suit "Gundam" developed by the Earth Federation Forces, and is thrust into the conflict with the Principality of Zeon, becoming the rival of Lieutenant Commander Char Aznable (voice: Shuichi Ikeda).
