[ Story ]

This is a story of the turbulent age when numerous ambitious leaders fought for mastery of Japan.
Hiyoshi-moru, who later rose to great fame and power in the empire as Hideyoshi, the great warlord, was born to on extremely poor yeoman family. After his father's death Hiyoshi became a novice priest at a nearby temple called Komyoji, but his wild actions resulted in his expulsion.
Years later, Koroku Hachisuka, leader of a gong of bandits, finds Hiyoshi-moru sound asleep on the bank of the Yahagi river. The bold and dare-devil youth impresses the rowdy bandit so much that he is offered the chance to join the band, but the boy refuses and continues his wanderings spurred on by his great ambition.
Hiyoshi eventually finds a lord to whom he wishes to devote his life. His serious appeal meets with the lord's approval and he is employed as a doorman to the great and courageous Nobunaga Oda. Later Hiyoshi becomes a promising Samurai under the name of Tokichiro Kinoshita.
Lord Nobunaga plans to extend his domains to the province of Mino and, as the first step, requires a castle to be built on the Sunomata sand-bonk, which faces the enemy's forces across a river. Tokichiro enthusiastically takes on this extremely dangerous mission. Determined to succeed in this seemingly impossible task, Tokichiro visits Koroku Hachisuka, the bandit acquaintance of his wondering days to seek his help. Hachisuka at first rejects the proposal but finally agrees to assist in the construction of the castle.
Tokichiro's courage and confidence triumphs, the Sunomata castle is completed and, moreover, the enemy is defeated. And Lord Nobunaga is so impressed with Tokichiro that he gives him the castle as his reward.
