Sanada who has been a mere technician in a small laboratory becomes a director of a chemical company through his invention of a binding agent, Sandait. With the change in his social position his life undergoes a sudden transformation. His wife, kind-hearted and faithful, comes to live in a showy way and often stays away from home, as does his only daughter Takako.
Kyosuke, a young and poor scientist burns with a desire for personal advancement tries by every means to attain his ends and associates with Takako.
However, the sales of Sandait diminish and Sanada's company is placed in a difficult position. The president of the company orders Sanada to invent a new anticorrosive but his pride as a scholar does not allow him to become a robot of the company and he resigns his position and returns to the small and somewhat wretched laboratory.
After the loss of his social position and wealth, his wife is deserted by her young love, and Kyosuke has no further use for his daughter. Kyosuke now succeeds in selling the results of his studies to Sanada's company and seduces Reiko, only daughter of the president.
