[ Story ]
Three mountain climbers, Ryokichi, his wife Saiko and Ryokichi's friend Koda are roped together.
Suddenly, Ryokichi misses his footing and he and his wife are suspended in mid-air. Koda clings to the edge of the precipice holding the two with the rope. It seems to Saiko that Koda cannot possibly support their weight for long and she cuts the rope which supports her husband below.
Saiko is indicted and the prosecutor insists that she is guilty because she and Ryokichi had been living an unhappy married life and Saiko had been carrying on a secret romance with Koda. It was also revealed that Ryokichi had been carrying five million yen life insurance.
She is found not guilty, despite the evidence against her, and decides to marry Koda. Finally she confesses that she cut the rope because she really loved Koda. He is shocked, changes his mind about marriage, and Saiko commits suicide.
