[ Story ]
Two soldiers, stationed in Manchuria during the last years of World War II, become friends even though one is a pacifist intellectual and the other a brawling ruffian from the streets. Scenarist Kikushima, who has worked on a number of Kurosawa films, including "High and Low" and "Red Beard", has adapted the original story by Yorichika Arima, and Director Masumura ("Manji", "The Build-Up") has created the saga of these two wartime friends who shared their food, their woman, and eventually made a great escape.
