Shiro (Ken Ogata) was a promising athlete but he failed to realize his ambition to break the short-sprint world record. This unfulfilled dream changes him. Though a lady's man he is brutal, even rapacious. Then he meets Hiroko (Michiyo Yasuda).
Now his life changes completely. This young girl has it in her, he believes, to break the world's record. He will realize his dream through her. Consequently he begins training the promising young athlete to become the fastest woman sprinter on earth.
He devotes himself to her training, trying in every way to make her harder, trying to make her into a man. He even orders her, to this end, to shave in the morning. As the result of such training Hiroko comes close to breaking the world's record, indeed, and Shiro is certain that success is within his grasp.
Then, suddenly, she is disqualified on medical grounds. A doctor pronounces her sexuality ambivalent. Now Shiro must undo all of his work. He must feminize this girl he has so masculinized. During the day he trains her, during the night he is her lover. Together they pull toward the Olympics.
She fails. But it no longer makes any difference. Shiro now realizes that his old dream has faded. In its place is a new one - life together with Hiroko.
