[ Story ]
Sixteen years ago, a man entered a bank in the suburbs of Tokyo, introduced himself as a health officer, and requested all' the employees to line up and take medicine against dysentery. Most of the staff obeyed and died of poisoning, but the few who survived were able to give descriptions of the criminal. The poison, it was decided, was of a type formerly used by the Imperial Japanese Army. Eventually, an artist, Hirasawa Sadamichi, is arrested and convicted of the crime. At first he confesses, and then denies it. Finally, on May 10, 1950, after more than sixty trials, he is sentenced to death, but strangely enough the death sentence is never carried out. After long years in prison, he still maintains his innocence and a group of people combine to "Save Hirasawa" and obtain his release.
