Selling 120 million copies worldwide, Kubo Taito's identically titled comic is given a live-action treatment with "Blade of the Immortal" and "Laughing Under The Clouds" star, Fukushi Sota in the lead role. Sato Shinsuke, director of "GANTZ" and "I Am a Hero" stylishly films the intense battle scenes.
High school student Ichigo (Fukushi) one day encounters a , an evil spirit which eats human souls. Kuchiki Rukia (Sugisaki Hana), a young girl claiming to be a Soul Reaper, comes to his aid but is mortally injured. As a last resort, Rukia bestows the power of a Soul Reaper onto Ichigo.
