Kadokawa Haruki produced 70s and 80s hits including The Inugami Family and Sailor Suit and Machine Gun and directs for the eighth time after a decade-long hiatus. Based on Takada Kaoru's same-named novel, which has also been turned into a TV drama.
Mio (Matsumoto Honoka) lost her parents in a big flood and was also separated from her close childhood friend Noe (Nao). Ten years later, Mio has been taken in by Tsuruya, a soba restaurant in Edo where she shows off her talent as a female chef. Meanwhile, Noe is now a mysterious high-ranking courtesan known as Asahi.
