Entertaining film about the "rice riots" said to be the first example of citizen activism by women in Japan.
Matsuura Ito (Inoue Mao) is a wife with three kids who works as a female laborer hauling bales of rice to the shore. The wives are vexed by rising rice prices and their efforts to block rice shipments end in failure. However, the rioting spreads nationwide after a local reporter covers the story and a newspaper in Osaka splashes headlines about the "women's uprising."
