[ Story ]
An internationally highly acclaimed documentary, screened at many international film festivals.
Mr. and Mrs. Sato run a Chinese restaurant in Tokyo. The wife, Hatsue, was born in Shandong, China in 1925 and came to Japan in 1948. The traditional Shandong cuisine she had learned in her youth died out during the Cultural Revolution. The Satos were since authorized by the Chinese Government as masters of Shandong cuisine, and are invited annually to China to educate chefs there. In 2002, Hatsue tries to repatriate to her motherland to devote herself to the revival of real Shandong cuisine, but her suggestion is strongly rejected by her husband who feels they're too far on in their years. Moreover, in rapidly changing China there is a hunger for new things, with traditions fading away. However, one Chinese song always stays in Hatsue's heart.
