This documentary puts on display the allure of Japan's national sport of sumo wrestling. Closely shadowing for nearly half a year the training halls of the Sakaigawa and Takadagawa dojos, the film describes the unknown world of sumo wrestling which has deeply taken root in the lives of Japanese over its more than 1500 year history.
The camera captures the unimaginable early morning practice, the surprising daily lifestyle, the strong relationship between dojo master and fellow wrestlers, and finally the intense matches at a sumo tournament. The documentary is a portrait of the fortitude possessed by sumo wrestlers, who have to be strong and must continue winning, to challenge themselves to the utmost limits.
