Feature-length documentary that sheds light on the overlooked wartime history of Okinawa, helmed by Sako Tadahiko of Kamejiro: The U.S. Military's Most Feared Man. Draws on newly uncovered materials to piece together the full picture of the epic Okinawa War and the life of Shimada Akira, Okinawa Prefecture's last wartime governor.
Shimada Akira became the governor of Okinawa Prefecture at the end of World War Two, and he forced through various policies based on his creed as executive officer of putting citizens first. However, as wartime conditions worsened he was forced to make an agonizing decision in the face of unreasonable demands from the military.
