In January of 2020, director Toyoda Toshiaki developed this ambitious film about the state of society with the Tokyo Olympics approaching. He used crowdfunding to produce the film as the spreading COVID-19 infections raised questions about the very meaning of filmmaking.
An unidentified monster is found deep in a rural mine. Seven years later rumors of an epidemic spread in the village and mental illness runs rampant. Then, a young man named Kenichi who practices Shugendo asceticism goes missing as he tries to save the world through extreme austerity.
