Film adaptation of the Naoki Prize-winning novel of the same title by Kadoi Yoshinobu, which depicts the family that supported Miyazawa Kenji. The film was directed by Narushima Izuru (Rebirth).
Kenji (Suda Masaki) is born the eldest son of a wealthy pawnbroker father, Masajiro (Yakusho Koji), and is carefully raised to be the heir to the family business, but rejects it as "bullying the weak". He runs away from home to Tokyo to devote himself to religion. Then his sister Toshi (Mori Nana), the most understanding person in the family, falls ill with tuberculosis. To encourage his sister, Kenji continues to write stories with all his heart.
