Vivid coming-of-age drama about the summertime experiences of a solitary boy, inspired by the nomadic Sanka who once lived in Japan's mountains. Directed by Sasatani Ryohei, whose films deal with the ways people living in nature.
The summer of 1965. Middle schooler Norio (Sugita Rairu) arrives in the provincial mountains from Tokyo, and in the neighboring mountain he meets Shozo (Shibukawa Kiyohiko) and his daughter Hana (Komukai Naru), who live as nomads. Norio faces intense pressure to study from his father and grandmother and is strongly drawn the Sanka lifestyle in the mountains.
