[ Story ]

An adolescent drama centering on high school students who settle for being reserves in a baseball club aiming to make the national high school baseball tournament, a staple Japanese summer event. Based on a novel of the same title by Hayami Kazumasa. Directed by Mori Yoshitaka who has undertaken a number of TV documentaries.
Masato (Saito Yoshiki) and Nobu (Nakamura Aoi) are members of the Keihin High School baseball club, which regularly participates in the pretigious tournament held at the Koshien stadium. The pair pledge to each other that they are going to get on the bench at Koshien next year. Borderline cases, they try to draw attention by standing for an election to the head of their dormitory and yelling and persevering with strenuous practice on the scorching field. However, they are still unable to step into the batter's box during games, and instead, they are ordered to reconnoiter the opponents. In spring, a promising freshman joins the club, making their position precarious, and the two become ultimate rivals for the last remaining slot. On the day when the players are announced, Masato is selected but not Nobu. Nonetheless Nobu manages to get on the bench due to an injury of another member. When the team is in a pinch in the finals of the regional tournament, Masato manages to carry out the important role of breaking the tension of the members with his comical performance which he has practiced well.
