[ Story ]

Winner of the Jury Prize in ‘Un Certain Regard' section at the 2008 Cannes International Film Festival. Kurosawa Kiyoshi, well known at film festivals across the globe, has created a family drama which exposes modern society in Japan based on a screenplay by Max Mannix from Australia.
An ordinary family of four lives in a small house along a railway in Tokyo. Then one day, Sasaki Ryuhei (Kagawa Teruyuki) abruptly loses his job at a major corporation. Unable to tell his wife, Megumi (Koizumi Kyoko), he leaves home every morning pretending to go to work. Megumi keeps up an appearance of a gentle mother who makes doughnuts for her children, but is bored with her daily life. Her second son, Kenji (Inowaki Kai), who is in the 6th year at primary school, secretly starts going to piano lessons, whilst her eldest, Takashi (Koyanagi Yu), who is a college student spending most of his time doing part-time jobs, joins the American armed forces. When Kenji returns home one day, the house is turned upside down and there is no one at home.
