[ Story ]
Based on the best selling novel by socially-conscious author Yamasaki Toyoko, writer of such books as ‘The Great White Tower.' Set against the backdrop of Japan's economic boom period around 1955–1985, The Unbroken depicts the bitter struggle of a man at the mercy of a giant corporation in bold fashion. Directed by Wakamatsu Setsuro (Whiteout) and written by Nishioka Takuya (Dawn of a New Day—The J.V.C. Story), The Unbroken is a hard-hitting human drama.
National Airlines labor union leader Onchi Hajime (Watanabe Ken) pushes for improvements in the workplace to ensure safer service. Despite succeeding in labor negotiations, upper management relegates Onchi to far flung locations such as Pakistan, Iran and Kenya over a period of ten years. Meanwhile, Onchi's former union colleague Gyoten (Miura Tomokazu) switches allegiances to the management side, becoming a member of the company's elite. Onchi's gradual return to the fold at Japan headquarters is continually met with setbacks until a jumbo jet crashes into Mount Osutaka. Responsible for dealing with the bereaved families of the accident, the tragedies before Onchi's eyes lead him to start overhauling the airline's corrupt system.
