[ Story ]
A film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Dazai Osamu, whose 100th anniversary since his birth was celebrated in 2009. The work humorously depicts the adolescent years of a young boy living in a sanatorium built at the foot of a mountain. It also drew much attention as a film directed by Tominaga Masanori of The Pavilion "Salamandre" (Pavilion Sanshouo), and as the film debut of the Akutagawa Award writer, Kawakami Mieko. After the end of the war, Hibari (Sometani Shota), who was held back from the war due to tuberculosis, stays at a rather eccentric sanatorium called "Kenko Dojo." He aspires to become a "new man" while surrounded by an energetic nurse Mabo (Naka Riisa), head nurse Take-san (Kawakami Mieko) and a much older best friend, Tsukushi (Kubozuka Yosuke).
