[ Story ]

Sayuri (Ayase Haruka), daughter of a Hokkaido sake brewer, is unable to speak due to a hearing impairment. Her boyfriend, Shinpei (Tamaki Hiroshi), works for her family's company, but is so absorbed in his hobby of painting that his attention to his job suffers. The two have known each other since childhood, and have always played together by the local river. In its waters swims a large breed of salmon called Amemasu, and Shinpei has always had an affinity with them. One day, Shinpei manages to sell one of his paintings and is invited to move to Tokyo. Sayuri's father, Shiro (Abe Hiroshi), tries to use this opportunity to end her relationship with Shinpei and marry his daughter off to the more capable Eizo (Matsuoka Shunsuke). The lovers become separated, and Sayuri's marriage to Eizo draws closer while Shinpei finds himself unable to paint. After a phone call to Sayuri, Shinpei is suddenly inspired to draw a pair of Amemasu, and heads to Hokkaido to be reunited with his true love. Chased by the villagers, Sayuri and Shinpei manage to escape together on a raft that is swept silently downriver.
