A documentary that reveals the little-known true life story of Nakamura Masayoshi, an iconoclastic painter who broke away from traditional artistic circles, and was also a scholar of Edo Period painter Sharaku. It is co-directed by Kondo Masanori and Takeshige Kunio, a film producer and close colleague of filmmaker Imamura Shohei who was friends with Nakamura.
Nakamura Masayoshi sent shockwaves through the Japanese art world with the innovative works he created during the 1960s and 1970s. His life, in which he continued to fight against authoritarianism and resist pressure and interference from the artistic community, was also an ongoing battle with illness.
