[ Story ]
On that day when a tsunami hit many schools along the Pacific coast of eastern Japan, Kadonowaki Elementary School in Ishinomaki City was subjected to a devastating onslaught. Seven of its 300 students were killed and the school building was rendered unusable by the combination of the sea water and a subsequent fire, while the surrounding region was mostly reduced to a wasteland. In April of 2012, a new term for the elementary school began in borrowed space at Kadonowaki Junior High School, located on high ground. The children who attended were all dealing with the aftermath of the disaster.
In a third-year class called "Yomigaere Ishinomaki" (bring Ishinomaki back to life), students contemplated how to rebuild the town that they lived in, and how to prepare for future disasters. The class, in which the children's uninhibited ideas flowed freely, continued until the third term. In the surrounding region, residents and government bodies began holding meetings to exchange opinions with the goal of restoring daily life and local communities, which are ongoing to this day... Training its lens on Kadonowaki Elementary School for one year from June following the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, this film weaves together the day-to-day revival of classrooms, communities, children and adults with the four seasons in Ishinomaki.
