[ Story ]
A Studio Ghibli animated adaptation of British author Joan G. Robinson's children's book. It shifts the setting to modernday Hokkaido, and follows the experiences of a lonely girl one summer. The director is Yonebayashi Hiromasa, who made his debut with his previous film Arrietty.
12-year-old Anna (voice: Takatsuki Sara) has shut herself away from those around after a particular incident. When her asthma worsens, she stays the summer with her relatives at their house by the sea. One day, Anna meets a mysterious blond girl named Marnie (voice: Arimura Kasumi) in front of an old mansion that is known among the villagers as "The Marsh House."
