[ Story ]
Reference to people as radishes or carrots implies that they are good common stock, the salt of the earth, the Smiths and Joneses of this world. One in this film is very good friends with another. He leads a perfectly ordinary life until he realizes that he is suddenly getting old. He argues with his good friend, discovers that his younger brother is a crook; then he looks at the sky and is reminded how beautiful life can be. Then he disappears. His family is frantic and does not know that he is simply enjoying himself - though the place of enjoyment happens to be a brothel which he innocently mistakes for a respectable hotel. This picture was to have been made by the late Yasujiro Ozu who died before the script was completed.
