[ Story ]

An elderly man has a disturbed mental condition, but is asked to leave the hospital because he tried to kiss the girl in the bed next to him. His reasons, however, were that he had just heard the death of a friend. He felt his own death very near and wanted to do something affirming life - hence the kiss. His wife knows that this is true but his children refuse to understand and treat the whole matter as a scandal. The son, too, has another reason. He has come to know the girl, and eventually he seduces her. The father in the meantime has been taken ill again, this time much more seriously. The wife suggests that they go for a holiday. Together they go to the sea and he seems to be recovering. Under the bright summer sun they make love, but are interrupted by a policeman and when they return home the husband is no better. A few days later he is found dead, having fallen down a stairway in the hospital. The distraught wife feels that it was suicide, particularly when she learns that he resigned from his company the day before his death. But life goes on. The boy is now to marry the girl he seduced and the marriage must be arranged.
