[ Story ]

A war-time human drama depicting the adolescence of young men whose lives were cut short by suicide attacks, and the agony of the soldiers who survived to see the end of the war, from a woman's viewpoint. Torihama Tome is a real character who ran a diner in Chiran town in Kagoshima prefecture where a suicide attack unit was based. Ishihara Shintaro, who worked as an executive producer, wrote the script based on her own testimony.
Torihama Tome (Kishi Keiko) runs a military-designated diner near the airfield where the suicide attack unit was based. The special attack unit was formed towards the end of the Pacific War, and young men who used to come to the diner are sent to the front. Tome feels hollowed out for not being able to help them remain behind, but she keeps her feelings to herself, and instead, welcomes them warmly at any time. The young men yearn for her like their mother. Despite suicide attacks, the War comes to an end and suicide attacks are regarded with contempt as a wasteful practice after the war. Major Nakanishi (Tokushige Satoshi), an ex-suicide bomber, is in agony from remorse for his fellow comrades who died in the attack. As time goes on Tome and Nakanishi finally feel a sense of redemption when they visit the Tokko Heiwa Kaikan (Suicide Attack Memorial Hall).
