[ Story ]
Naoki Prize-winning author Hamuro Rin's period novel is brought to life on film. It nobly portrays the bond between an upright samurai and his deceased wife amid the backdrop of internal intrigue entangling a fief. At the helm is Kimura Daisaku who is also one of Japan's leading cinematographers.
The year is 1730. Master swordsman Uryu Shimbei (Okada Junichi), who attempted to expose corruption in his fief, is banished by the authorities. Thereafter, he endlessly drifts from place to place with his wife Shino (Aso Kumiko). However, Shino dies from illness. Her last request was for Shimei to protect Sakakibara Uneme (Nishijima Hidetoshi), a friend in her hometown. Shimbei decides to fulfill that promise.
