[ Story ]

Lyrical film from Naruse Mikio that poignantly portrays women working as hostesses in Ginza still recovering from the war. Tanaka Kiniyo performs brilliantly as both "woman" and "mother."
Yukiko works as a hostess in Ginza while raising the son she had with her old flame Fujimura. One day her old friend Shizue asks her to accompany Kyosuke, the son of a tycoon on a visit to Tokyo. Kyosuke works at an observatory, and his quiet way of talking about the stars brings back forgotten memories of childhood for Yukiko. Her thoughts turn toward romance as she imagines marrying Kyosuke and moving to the countryside.
